Python's observation is correct. With the close working distance I understand comes narrow depth of field. The focus points is further back but I need to do work on how to try to get more in focus.
The relatively small viewfinders make manual focusing a challenge too

Great photos, but the stamen are out of focus. What is the focal point of the photo; the petal edge?

WRT hoverflies, hit them with Peabeu, then they stay nice and still.
