After an enjoyable boys weekend, I decided there was one thing missing. A boy toy. So I popped over to the shop to get one. I asked for a good camera to impress my camera toting mates and he recommended a Nikon D5.
He said I would like the 153-point autofocus system which would make sure the photos were good no matter where I pointed it. I was a bit disappointed that it only had 20.8 megapixels. I assured him my friends had more and he assured me they did not. I think he lied, but I wasn't in the mood for arguing.
I asked him about the ISO and he said it could go to 102400. I think that might be impressive, but I will have to try taking pictures while going faster than a speeding bullet.
He said I could take 4K movies with it. Given I do not go to sports events anymore, I am not sure what I might film. Perhaps when we go on a caravaning boys weekend I'll get you two to play Hamlet and the Ghost while I film.
It also comes with a wireless transmitter thingy. I need to buy a tripod to use that (more on that later). But it looked cool, so I had to have it.
The lens it came with is definitely too small though. He really wanted me to try the lens for a while before getting one, but I knew that I needed a comparable one to my mates, or perhaps a bit bigger. He showed me a 600mm Nikkor f4/E in the catalog because he did not have any in stock. I put one on order because it looked just right.
Anyway, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so I dragged the D5 into work this morning to shoot a few practice shots. The sunrise over Croydon station was perfect. I think the first (last of the three below) was the best with the fingers of light and Venus high in the sky. The second was a bit blurred, probably because I really needed the tripod. The last I pointed at the sky, but I am a bit worried that I had the exposure setting wrong. I was playing at that point. Anyway, more play required this weekend.
What do you guys think?
Paul always knows which of my cities are hiding transports! I think the lens was going a bit far. I wanted something like the photographer at the Royal Easter Show had.
Photoshopping one to wargame was a stroke of genius though, and I am very proud of my shadow.
Happy 1st of April everyone!

Awesome. Excellent photoshop of the camera on the wargame map, had me fooled for a while.
Nice photos taken on your mobile!
Of course, if you really did fork out $8,500 for a D5 both Thygo and I would call you M'Lord for a month.
