You have added the bit "he was poisoned in 2006 at Putin's request". That has not been proved, and may or may not be true. Another suspect is Boris Berezovsky, an exiled Russian business oligarch who was driven out of Russia by Putin, and wanted to frame him. In the murky world of State intelligence agencies, traitors and double agents, corrupt oligarchs etc, who knows who killed who.

ThygoCanberra is referring to Alexander Litvinenko, who was a former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and KGB, and who fled from court prosecution in Russia and received political asylum in the United Kingdom.

He was poisoned in 2006 at Putin's request.

You are referring to the murder of Georgi Ivanov Markov, a Bulgarian dissident in London. He was stabbed with an umbrella on 7 September 1978 which injected him with a pellet composed of 90% platinum and 10% iridium and which also contained toxic ricin. In 1978 Putin was only 26 years old and a very junior officer in the KGB. He did not become President of Russia until 2000.
