GMT Games have a system called the P500 system where they propose a wargame, and then if 500 people pledge to buy it they proceed to produce the game.
I notice that a monster game of Gallipoli is now in the P500 system, and as of today there are 347 pledges. Part of me wants to pledge, given the significance of this campaign to Australian military history. Part of me wonders whether it is possible for the Aussies to win this game, given that it is a simulation of a Churchillian ill prepared brain explosion.
The pledge price is US$69. The regular price will be US$105.
The specs for this game are impressive, and when it says 2 to four players I am thinking BOYS WEEKEND material.
So, what is the verdict? Do we pledge?
My understanding was that the landing met light resistance and then stopped as all initial objectives were achieved. So moving directly into an unprepared assault with support from naval units braving the mine fields would have done it, reaching open ground and turning the campaign into a Palestine re-run.
I suggest that Anzac Day has had its peak in Australia, and will decline in interest from here on. Just like the Brits no longer make a fuss of Waterloo.
