John's debating style is young (no pun intended) while conceding some points, I think he misses the key difference between history and simulations. History is to find out what happened, and what the participants thought about it. Simulations are to put the participants into a similar situation to better understand it. A likely historical result is important, so generalisations are allowed where it achieves a playable and not impossible outcome.
I score it as 6-3 in favour of the historian.
By the way, I love the quote about abandoning a hopes.
