I mostly use the software that came with the camera - View NX2. It isn't very powerful but it can adjust sharpness, brightness, contrast, white balance and do crops.

Very detailed and helpful. I think the 4 working cameras in our household are too primitive and lack the necessary settings, but I need to check because there are lots of options I have never played with.

You accurately described my results so far: "The result will be a bright blob with no detail".

What software do you post process with.

I usually do rather badly at hearts because I am always trying to shoot the moon. Generally a long suit with all face cards is required, but you probably need to know where the Queen is too.
