Apparently they are capable of flight. Some have flown over a very low internal fence and the Drake had to get about 4 feet off the ground to get on the shed. However they have shown no inclination to fly away - they seem perfectly happy to waddle about our back yard, which is why we took to letting them out most of the time.
I suspect that the domestic breeding process has made them much less airworthy than their wild cousins - for both the muscovies and the runners (Mallard derivatives).


Can they fly?


Not like that one, and our ducks seem to be pretty ground-bound - though the drake got on top of part of their pen on the first day.
